RAPID RESPONSE CENTRE

In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian there was a need for heavy equipment for clearing and hauling away the debris that covered every square inch of our Islands. Several on Island private enterprises provided what equipment they had available and the cleanup began. As time went by more equipment arrived and was put to use immediately. Some of this equipment has been donated to the community for the community's benefit. This equipment will need maintenance and a storage facility so the ECRA proposes to construct a Hurricane Recovery Center (HRC) on the new clinic property. This would be located behind the clinic and well hidden from view with lots of natural vegetation surrounding the building.

We propose that this facility would house the community tractors and skid steers as well as having a portion constructed as a “hurricane proof bunker” that would house some emergency supplies such as might be needed by the community after a bad storm. This sketch shows the approximate footprint the HRC may require utilizing a 40’ x 80’ building and it is positioned well away from view by the general public.

Health Care Clinic

Future plans include collaboration with Flagler Medical Group of West Palm Beach, Florida, Hope Town Rising and local doctors to develop a private clinic to more adequately meet the ever-evolving needs of our community, including diagnostic testing, state-of-the art equipment and an on-staff doctor. A Steering Committee is being formed and needs assessments, design and equipment lists are all being worked on. Flagler held an initial community consultation in January 2020 on this project. More news to follow on this exciting initiative.
