Abandoned Vehicle Removal and White Sound Landing Clearance

After Hurricane Dorian, there were hundreds of vehicles which had been flooded or broken which could not be repaired. These wrecks littered the island. Most were dumped at White Sound Landing, where they sat in a tangled pile of metal and junk.

In Spring 2021, ECRA organised to collect abandoned vehicles from all over the island with the help of C&C Waste and Adam Love, worked with Abacays to remove these vehicles and to clear the pile at White Sound, and then cleared the White Sound Landing area by hand. We also removed old HTVFR boats, Sailing Club boats and our dear old, very rusty Land Rover Fire Truck!

Thanks in particular go to Kristina Malone of ECRA for her perseverance and monumental efforts to make this happen.

PLEASE NOTE: Now that White Sound Landing is cleared, we all need to ensure it stays that way.

Hope Town Council and the Police will be enforcing Bahamian law against illegal dumping. Any items dumped at White Sound Landing will be traced and returned - at the owner’s expense - to their property. The matter will be investigated, and criminal prosecution and fines may follow. If you see someone dumping there, please inform the police. If you receive freight there, please take any and all packaging with you.

Let’s all do our part to keep our island beautiful!
